Most people who travel overseas get travel insurance through their travel agent or online.

The insurance will cover non-medical (loss of baggage, theft) and medical (doctor, hospital and evacuation expenses).

The terms and conditions will vary between insurers and most people don't check before they have to claim.

Am I covered for pre-existing conditions?
Yes, usually you are covered if you are not having active medical treatment for pre-existing conditions or if you apply for specific cover which is granted by the insurer.

Am I covered for terrorism or civil wars?
Not usually.

Can I complain to the insurer?
Yes. You can lodge an internal complaint and the insurer has 45 days to make a decision. Get help.

Can I appeal to an ombudsman or court?
Yes. You can lodge a complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service (FSO) or take your case to court. Get help.

Upon any breach of this agreement, or inappropriate use of Maurice Blackburn services as determined by Maurice Blackburn in its sole discretion, Maurice Blackburn reserves the right to terminate your registration. Maurice Blackburn's preferred course of action is to advise you of your inappropriate use or breach of this agreement and recommend any necessary corrective action.
